Athens Food Tour

The starting point of this amazing food tour of Athens is in the heart of the city center, where you will meet your English-speaking food tour leader and the rest of the group.
One of our first stops is at a popular coffee house, to taste the traditional Greek coffee and get introduced to the famous greek coffee culture. Coffee is really important to Greeks and you will find out why.
Another stop is at a local pastry shop, to taste a very well known to greeks dessert, bougatsa. These delicious custard-filled filo squares with powdered sugar and cinnamon blend in different flavours and scents from the Mediterrenian and the middle east.

One of the highlights of the tour is the lively central meat and fish market of Athens, called Varvakios Agora. Walk around the many stalls, find out how local vendors are trying to convince the potential buyers that their products are the best and check out how locals do their shopping. Close to the market, a stop at a very special food store is included, where we will sample-taste some greek artisanal products like olive oil, spreads, greek yogurt and honey.
You will also try souvlaki in one of our next stops. For Greeks, souvlaki is the best street food on earth and we’ll take you to a famous local grill house to prove it!
One of the final stops will be at the herbs and spices epicenter of Athens, where we will taste some greek meze (the greek version of tapas) at a traditional deli-house. We will try a wide variety of cheeses and cured meats around this exotic street, full with the scent of clove, pepper, cinnamon.
By the time this tour is over, it’s certain that you will have 3 things: a full stomach, an overview of the historic city center and a very interesting insight into Greek culinary culture.
